BRIGHT PICNIC
OLD FOLKS’ DAY Over 100 people attended the annual picnic of the Old Foiks’ Association at the showgrounds on Saturday, the inmates of the Cook Memorial Home being guests at a gathering which proved most enjoyable, despite the rain, as there was plenty of shelter available. Amusements for young and old were arranged, all joining in games and competitions. A telegram from the president, Mr. J. Moss, regretting his inability to attend was received, with his good wishes for a happy time. The official unfurling of a flag presented by Mr. G. Shennan to the association took place, Mr. W. Peryer officialii> and wishing the association every success. Mr. A. W. Eliott remarked on' the progress of the association and three cheers were given for the donor during the unfurling of the flag. Music was provided by the Gisborne Home Guard band conducted by Mr. George Douglas. Mr J. Marsh, on behalf of the Memorial Home visitors, thanked the association for its hospitality, and for a day which they would long remember. Thanks were offered also to all who had helped with the picnic. Competitions resulted —Nail driving: Men: R. Fleming, 1; A. Chilcott. 2. Women: Mrs. M. Brewster, 1; Mrs. Bradley, 2. Darts. —Women: Mrs. McIntyre. 1: Mrs Carter. 2: Mrs Clark, 3. Men: J. Madden. 1; Chilcott, 2. Bandsmen only: Bandsman H. Nunns. 1; Bandsman Thomson. 2; Bandsman Hansen, 3. Stepping the Chain. —Women: Mrs. F. Sinten, 1; Mrs. A. W. Flliott, 2. Men: J. Madden, 1; W. Peryer, 2.
