WOMEN’S BOWLS

TITLE OPENING PLAY

CENTRE CHAMPIONSHIP Though heavy as a result of the ■week-end rainstorm, the greens of the Kahutia Bowling Club played well and paradoxically had the effect of speeding the games on the opening yesterday of the annual championship tournament of the East Coast Women’s Bowling CentrePlayers from the Otane, Heretaunga (Hastings), Port Ahuriri (Napier), and Riverside (Gisborne) clubs were cordially welcomed by the president of the centre, Mrs. C. G. Wilkinson, of the Heretaunga club, following her introduction by the tournament secretary, Mrs. C. Mackay, a vice-president of the centre. Mrs. Wilkinson expressed confidence that all the games throughout the two days of the tourney would provide a good standard of play, sustain interest and prove highly enjoyable. In .thanking the Kahutia club for allowing the use of the splendid greens for the tournament, Mrs. Wilkinson recalled with pleasure that on the occasion of her first visit to a bowling green in the Gisborne district she had been a guest of the Kahutia club.
