Better Hotel Service
A scheme to improve the service at hotels, particularly in cities and at holiday resorts, will be started in Auckland soon by the Government and the licensed trade. A Hotel Staff Training Society has been formed to give special training to staffs in all branches of hotel service and management. Stars in Fiji’s Team Philip Albert Snow, captain of the Fijian cricket team touring New Zealand, is described by the Fiji Times and Herald as having a sound knowledge of the game, as a correct, orthodox bat, most, difficult to dislodge, a good cover field, and useful slow bowler. He has played for Leicestershire, Sir Pelham Warner’s XI, Sir Julien Cnhn’s XI, Northamptonshire 11. Incogniti, and Cambridge University, Crusaders, and Buccaneers. He was born in Leicester in 1915 and graduated master of arts with honours from Christ's College, Cambridge. Jn Fiji he is an Administrative Officer. lie has clone much for cricket, and is secretary of the Fiji Cricket Association. He captained Fiji against the New Zealand Forces team in 1942. Harry Joseph Apted is the youngest member of the team and his cricket sense is far in advance of his years. Left-handed and exceptionally quick on his feet, Apted’s form is remarkable, for when he was very young his right arm was badly injured and he is unable to straighten it. Kaminieti Aria, “not seeming to move his feet, specialises in Fiji in lifting huge sixes over the cocoa nut nalms lining the grounds, demoralises local slow howlers, and the propulsion of his 16 stone weight gives a jet-like character to his bowling.”
