Alex Jany’s record-breaking efforts on the French Riviera last September, when he set up a world's 100 metres record of 55.8 seconds, and a world's record of 55.85ec., and a world's 400 metres record of 4min. 35.25ec. mark the 18-year-old Frenchman as the best Olympic swimming prospect. W. J. Howcraft, writing m Vvorld’s Sport, has the following: “. . . I believe Jany is today the greatest all-round swimmer the world has seen. Before he hangs up his racing suit in retirement, he will set up a string of records over Ml distances which will make Johnny Weismuller's performances appear third rate.” CUT HIS THROAT!
