LADY BADEN-POWELL CHIEF GUIDE OF WORLD GISBORNE’S RECEPTIONS The first visit to Gisborne to be made by the World Chief Guide, Lady Baden-Powell, G.8.E., takes place this month. Her Gisborne itinerary has been approved by Dominion headquarters and includes a number of public functions. Chief interest for members of the Guide and Scout movements will centre on the march past and combined welcome in the Army Hall on the day after she arrives, Saturday, March 20. Lady Baden-Powell will take the salute in Peel street and will be accompanied by her personal standard bearer and escorts, as also will the Chief Commissioner for New Zealand, Miss Ruth Herrick, 0.8. E.. who accompanies the Chief Guide on her visit. Full Colour Parade Immediately after the march past, at which full colours will be carried, striking welcome will take place In the Army Hall in which Brownies, Cubs, Scouts and Guides will participate with hakas, songs, and colourful spectacle. Lady Baden-Powell will address the gathering, which is to be open to members of the public. A civic reception on the Friday at 2.15 p-m. Will be accorded Lady BadenPowell at the Army Hall, after which she will address a public meeting. Later, there will be an afternoon tea for members of the local association to meet the visitor. Provision has been made for Guiders and Scouters of the district and province, about 60 in all, to informally meet the Chief Guide at a supper and Rotarians will be addressed on Monday before Lady Baden Powell returns to Napier. Gisborne is the first town in New Zealand on the official itinerary and the rest of the Chief Guide’s tour will not commence until April, Gisborne’s dates having been put forward to avoid later conflict with the school holidays.
