Y.F.C. ACTIVITIES GISBORNE CLUB YEAR A review of the activities of the Gisborne Young Farmers’ Club was made last evening by the retiring chairman Mr. J. D. Heaslip, at the ninth annual meeting of members, held at Low's reception rooms. He said that recent meetings had been attended by an average of 25 members of a total membership of 37, indicating that the interest of members was being well maintained. Despite the fact that there had been several resignations during the year, the club had enrolled 11 new members. Shearing competitions were becoming popular among clubs in the Dominion, Mr. Heaslip said in his report. The Gisborne and Manutuke clubs have combined in their shearing activities. There was growing interest in the competitions and the club was indebted to the continued support of Messrs. R. G. Hine, E. K. F. Cameron, T. .T. Harris and S. T. Snushall.

Inter-Club Competition The formation of an additional club in Gisborne had introduced competition and the first inter-club debate had been conducted during the year, with the Rev 3. Kingsley Fairbairn, M.8.E.. as adjudicator. Further debating was locked forward to in the future.

Mr. Heaslip drew attention to the fact that no club of its type could truly claim to be successful without the co-operation and assistance of lecturers to address members on suitable topics. The club was deeply indebted to those who had given their services and time last year. The number of entries in Young Farmers’ Club classes at the Gisborne Shows had been increasing and it was hoped to make them more of a feature in the Shows- Social activities had included dances and an inter-club Rugby match which had ended in a draw.

Finally, Mr. Heaslip paid a tribute to the work of Mr R. Hickman as club secretary. Speaking to the report, Mr. D. G. Smith explained that with the formation of the second club in the district it had been necessary to find a new executive. Mr. Heaslip had consented to take over the chair and the speaker congratulated him on the manner in which he had handled the club’s affairs in the past year. Mr. Smith drew attention to the Autumn Show and members wishing to compete for the prize available for the person securing most noints should enter before March 19. Keen support was expected from members of both clubs. The report was adopted. Healthy Finances The treasurer, Mr. J- Drummond, gave an account of the club’s finances, which showed it to be in a healthy state with a balance amounting to £73 in the bank at the close of the year. Officers for the ensuing year were: Senior advisory member, Mr. If. D. C. Lange: junior advisory members, Messrs. S. McGuinness and K. W. 'Cooper: chairman, Mr. R. Hickman; secretary, Mr. A. M. Singer; treasurer. Mr. J- Drummond: delegates to district committee, Messrs. Hickman, Singer, and H. D. C. Lange.

Mr. W. C. Kchn explained the evolution of music, illustrating the different forms of music at the piano. A vocal item, “Myself When Young,” was contributed by Mr. R. Hickman.

Club members and their guests then partook of supper and the following toast list was honoured: “The King,” proposed by Mr. J. D. Heaslip; “Farmers’ Organisations,” proposed by Mr. K. W. Cooper, and responded to by Mr. A. C. Langford; “Women’s Division,” proposed by Mr. R. W. Smith and responded to by Mrs- W. Carruthers: “The Lecturers,” proposed by Mr. R.
