BIG HAUL OF DRUGS

HOARD ON U.S. VESSEL SMUGGLED FROM FRANCE (10 a.m.) NEW YORK, March 9. A Federal narcotics squad seized 1,000,000 dollars worth of pure morphine hidden in flour barrels and biscuit boxes in' the galley of the steamship Marine Marlin soon after she docked today. No arrests were announced. The Collector of Customs, Mr. Harry Burning, said the drug was being smuggled in by a narcotics ring with headquarters in France. He predicted that the 1,000,000-dollar loss would “break the back of the ring.”
