TE KAHA ARREST
AUCKLAND VISITOR CHARGE OF SAFE THEFT (S.R.) TE KAHA, Jan. 6. Following the recovery of a greencoloured car bearing Auckland registration plates near the Oweka Stream last week, police inquiries were intensified and last night a man was arrested at Te Kaha by Detective-Sergeant R. H. Waterson, Detective T. Sneddon, both of Gisborne, and Constable G. A. MeCurragh, Te Kaha.. Douglas Wright, aged 37, a labourer of Auckland, appeared this morning before Mr A. H. Cato, J. P., at Te Kaha and was remanded to Gisborne on a charge of breaking and entering the Royal Oak Hotel on December 28 and the theft of a safe and £B4O. There have been crowds of visitors this season at Te Kaha, 168 miles north of Gisborne on the East Coast scenic highway, via East Cape, to Opotiki. It was during the course of investi gations that Constable McCurragh telephoned certain information to higher authority in Gisborne. Detective Sergeant Waterson and Detective Sneddon made a, hurried trip up the East Coast yesterday afternoon and took the accused into custody last night.
