CUTS SUGGESTED

FOREIGN AID FUNDS HOUSE COMMITTEE’S VOTE (N.Z.P.A.— Copyright.) (10 a.m ) WASHINGTON, Dec 17. The Democrats launched a fight late today to restore 88,000.000 dollars which the House appropriations committee earlier in the . day cut from the emergency foreign aid programme.. Congress on Monday armroved of the principle of providing 597,000,000 dollars in an emergency aid programme for France, Italy. Austria and China, but the separate legislation which the House appropriations committee dealt with today was required to provide the actual funds for carrying out the programme. The measure which the appropriations committee passed today and sent to the floor of the House recommended no funds for China and disallowed *8,000,000 dollars for France and Italy on the grounds that the amount covered items not directly related to foreign relief. The sppronriations committee today also cut 137,000,000 dollars from the army’s request for 237,000.000 dollars for food and relief in the British zone of Germany and trimmed 123.000.000 dollars from food and relief estimates for the United States occupied areas of Germany. Japan and Korea.
