First Member From Maori Race

Welcoming new members to the meeting of the P.B. Catchment Board yesterday. the chairman, Mr J. R. Hair, drew attention to the fact that Mr Paratene Ngata, East Coast, now held the first appointment as a member of the Maori race to a catchment board in New Zealand. It was appropriate that the East Coast Maoris should be the first to secure representation because of the time and attention they had already given to the work of soil conservation. Replying. Mr Ngata said his people realised their responsibilities in regard to the work.
