SiHfSE: ! 13E m m ES £®a ■SS raw w sSi s«a Homae Weaving In the 15th Century ¥F there had been such things as dressmaking guides and pattern books five hundred years ago, we can well imagine that the instructions would have begun with “First weave yonr doth”. The loom shown in our illustration is typical of those that were in use in almost every home in the fifteenth century. The head of the loom is suspended from a beam in the parlour ceiling and the other end rests on the floor. The weaver raises and depresses the alternate warp threads by means of the pedal and the upright piece shown held in her left hand, and throws the shuttle through the ‘shed’ thus formed. It would take manly days at the loom to weave sufficient fabric for a frock. Today; great modern mills have relieved women of the endless fesk of weaving, and the beautiful products of the looms are accepted as a matter of course. We, at TattersfieH Broadloom Mills, take pride in the knowledge that we are contributing something to the comfort and delight of the women of New Zealand, with our luxurious mattresses and handsome floor rugs.
