Peter Kane, the 29-year-old European bantamweight boxing champion, retained his title at Manchester with a points win over 15 rounds against Belgian challenger, Joe Cornelis, who lost narrowly. The world, British and Empire flyweight champion, Jackie Paterson gained a decision on points against Californian, Alchevaz, although, at the end of a poor 10-round fight.
