EX-SERVICEMEN AIDED OBTAINING HOMES More than 30,00 ex-servicemen of the recent war have already been directly assisted under rehabilitation to obtain homes. This is disclosed in a statement from the Rehabilitation Board showng the financial assistance rendered as at the end of October. The figure given of 30,149 ex-service-men housed, is divided thus; Granted loans to buy or build. 18,198, allocated State rental houses 7554, granted farm loan 4397.

Rehabilitation loans authorised during October totalled £1,165,142. This brought the sum of loan assistance to £44,715,710 granted to 54,800 ex-service-men and women. Farm loans for the month numbered 93 valued at £383,030. This made a total of 4397 farm loans worth £17,685,247. Housing loans, for buying and building, were increased during October by 501 worth £594,804, bringing the total to 18,198 such loans valued at £21,328,274. Included are 10,436 supplementary loans worth £1,563,283, these latter being intended to bridge the gap between present day costs and pre-war prices.

Other financial assistance recorded is: Business loans, for October 144 (£115,359) ,to date 5448 (£3,274,448); free-of-interest furniture loans, for October 789 (£70,814), to date 25,352 (£2,333,429); free-of-interest loans, to purchase tools of trade, for October 16 (£471), to date 1115 (£36,653); miscellaneous small advances, for October 6 (£664), to date 290 (£57,623).
