SOVIET LIVING COSTS CUT 50%
NEW FOOD PRICES FLOUR & MEAT CLOTHES COSTS SLUMP (11 a.m.) MOSCOW, Dec. 15. The new food prices published today, following the abolition of rationing, mean a cut of 50 per cent in the Moscow family’s budget. Flour at four roubles a pound represents a reduction of 400 per cent from the former free market price and a 12 per cent reduction on the former rationed price, says Reuter’s correspondent in Moscow. Unlimited quantities of all kinds of meat are now available instead of small f quantities on ration and a considerable amount is obtainable in the open market. The best quality beef now costs 15 roubles a pound, which is one-third of the former open market price. ■ Men’s and women’s suits will cost between 300 and 400 per cent less than the former open market price.
