TASMAN FLYING-BOATS A reduction in the all-up weight at which Tasman flying-boats will operate, pending the results of further exhaustive tests, was announced on Friday by Mr. G. N. Roberts, general manager of Tasman Empire Airways, Limited. Mr. Roberts said that from Saturday the nying-boats would operate at an all-up weight of 58,0001 b instead of 60,0001 b. The company concurred with proposals f ? r .the tests made by the director of civil aviation. ‘ During seven years’ operations, the company has “followed a rigid ‘safety first policy’.” said Mr. Roberts. ‘‘lt appears from Australian press reports that a full check is desired of the threeengine performance of Tasman-class fly-ing-boats at the present authorised allup weight, particularly under such abnormal weather conditions as those experienced last week, when R.M.A. New Zealand returned to Australia on three engines. Concurring with the civil aviation branch of the Air Department, the company will carry out exhaustive tests under supervision of the civil aviation authorities.
