Keen Game Favours H. 5.0.8.

On the Oval No. 2 wicket, the H-5.0.8.- attack led by T. Downes restricted scoring by United in reply to the opening innings of 206. P. H. Dow, who had scored 14 the previous week, reached 29 on Saturday before he fell to a catch off D. F. Cederwall. The top scorer, C. R. Fraser, gave a bright display and appeared to be set for" a substantial tally when at 33 he unluckily struck the stumps in turning for a ball from Lee. Downes, who bowled unchanged, sent down 33.4 overs, including 11 maidens, to get six wickets for 57 runs. The innings closed 53 short of the H. 5.0.8. total. G. E. Slade’s 53 not out was the feature of the H.S-0.8. second strike which realised 107 in about as many minutes. Only seven wickets bad fallen when shortlv before time the game opHed in the first-innings win to H.S. 0.8. Collapse of Marist B. Birrell, who added 38 to his previous week’s tally in making his total of 65 and R. Barbour, who contributed 37, were the nrincinal run-getters in the Rugby Old Bovs Senior A second innings which closed for 142, nine more than they scored in the first strike. With about 200 minutes left for play, Marist faced a deficit of 212 runs, but proved unable to make , a fighting stand against the bowling of the Barbour brothers. Jock and Rowan, whose figures were 5-12 off five and 4-15 off six overs resnectively. the innings '■ielding onlv 39 runs and R. 0.8. getting, by a margin of. 173 runs, their first 10-point win of the season. Jack Barbour got his five wickets at an actual cost when the fifth one fell of only three runs. nine being scored off his last four deliveries. Two Runs a Minute Scoring in excess of two runs a minute was achieved by the Rugbv Old Boys Senior B side in their 10-pomt win against United (B). The declaration of the latter at 118 for nine wickets in their second -strike loft the two-’nnings total at 171. Rugby Old Poys. who had scored 93 in their firot inninas. had only 35 minutes in which to get the 79 runs required to improve on the first-innings win. In the exciting conclusion the necessary tallv was reached as the strikin'* of the hour signalled full time and the eonclusion of the over produced a small margin. The outright win was the second secured by this team this season in the one-day games of the division-
