QUALITY OF PETROL

Sir. —I read in the Herald a statement made by a Wellington service station proprietor saying that the quality of petrol we are getting is causing grave concern among motorists and retailers in Auckland and Taranaki, and that “its effect on cars is sluggish”. That is putting it mildly! It quickly blackens cranckcase oil, and, in light cars especially, it necessitates frequent decarbonising due to frequent use of the choke. Is there any real reason why motorists cannot have a better quality petrol? I think it is the duty of the Automobile Association to look into the matter and make a statement. 100 OCTANE
