PRODUCE MARKET

WELLINGTON RATES GREEN PEAS UNWANTED The market has taken on a brighter outlook, this no doubt being due to increased supplies of small fruits coming to hand and the warmer weather, states the weekly report of Messrs. Townsend and Paul, Limited, fruit and produce merchants, Wellington. Fruits in greatest demand are strawberries, cherries, dessert plums, gooseberries, peaches, cucumbers and raspberries. Glasshouse tomatoes, especially coloured, are sought after for Christmas ripening. Vegetable sales have been rather slow, more particularly cabbage and cauliflower. Green peas have been offered as low as a few shillings per sack. However, a good demand was shown for choice lettuce, beetroot and hothouse beans. The potato market is virtually flooded.
