DIPPING OFF SHEARS
Owing to the fact that a sheep farmer in the Poverty Bay district has recently had trouble after dipping, it is considered advisable to warn others of possible danger by dipping right off shears. The case reported has been proved to be caused by bacterial infection of shear CU A - virulent type of bacteria has been found present in the yards and had found its way into the dipping bath, and the fact that the sheep were all more or less showing shear cuts was the cause of the infection. Fly strike followed when the wound became attractive to the fly. Under these circumstances farmers are advised to see that shear cuts have reasonable time to heal (at least seven days) before putting them through the bath.—CAdvt.)
