NINE DOWN FOR 42 RUNS HUTT VALLEY SCORE 414 (P.A.) MASTERTON, Dec.'l3. At the close of play yesterday afternoon at Masterton in the Hawke Cup elimination match between Wairarapa and Hutt Valley the local team appeared to be in a hopeless position. Hutt Valley scored 414 runs, the innings terminating suddenly when Keriip was struck on the head by a rising ball and could not continue. Kemp scored 210 runs but gave several chances. Ward, who scored 65, also gave chances. When stumps were drawn Wairarapa had lost nine wickets for 42 runs. In Hutt Valley’s first innings double figure-scorers were Kemp 210 (retired. injured), Ward 65, Minihin 23, James 20, Reid 17, Capstick 16, Delamore 11. Bowling for Wairarapa, Kershaw took 4. for 75, Rowe 2 for 51, Roberts 1 for 19, Lambourne 1 for 45, K. Masters 1 for 47. For Wairarapa Shearer was top scorer with 12. Bowling for Hutt Valley, Muir took 6 for 11, Ward 1 f.or none, Mavelly 1 for 12, Robertson 1 for 16.
