AMUSEMENTS
Majestic.—Today’s Technicolour attraction, “The Thrill of n Romance,” brings to the screen the thrill of music, of laughter, of spectacle, of colour—the thrill of Van Johnson, of Esther Williams, of a great new voice on the screen for the first time, of the Metropolitan Opera star, Lnuritz Melchior, and with the thrill of the music—" Song of India,” “Vcsti La Gluba," “I Should Care,” “I Love You,” “Hungarian Rhapsody,” "Schubert’s Serenade.’’
King.—The chief attraction at the King’s ■today is "The Late George Apley,” Ronald Column's portrayal of the still, con-vention-bound Apley is a model of reticence. Without flawing the pompous dignity of the Boston snob to whom the term "foreigners” includes everybody living outside the environs of Beacon street, Colman manages to retain audience sympathy. Peggy Cummins is well cast as his daughter. Richard Ney is adequate as Apley’B son, whose love affair is frowned upon by Apley. Richard Haydn plays a staid, verbose Bostonian, Edna Best is excellent as Apley’s wife. Regent.—Spencer Tracey, Katharine Hepburn, Robert Walker and Melvyn Dougins all in the one picture; M.G.M.'s stirring drama,
"The Sea of Grass,” now showing at the Regent Theatre. Adapted from Conrad Richter’s best-selling novel of the same name, "The Sea of Grass” is the story of an ironwilled cattle baron and his attractive citybred wife. A group of farmers led by an idealistic lawyer, ' played by Melvyn Dougins, are seeking to invade the rich grass cattle country and divide it into small farms. Ah the stern-willed rancher Spencer Tracy delivers one of the finest performances of his career.
