TIGHTER CONTROL

PETROL RATIONING ACTION BY CANBERRA (11.45 a.m.) CANBERRA, Nov. 25. The Prime Minister, Mr. J. B. Chifley, has announced plans to tighten the control of petrol rationing. As an explanation, he said that black-marketing had endangered the whole petrol supply position in Australia. After December 1 each license holder will have to draw his coupons from one issuing office. A motorist will need a very good excuse to obtain a transfer. The January petrol coupons will not be issued in December.

Mr. Chifley said that there was no prospect of an improvement in petrol supplies, and that unless consumption was reduced to the level of the total license issue, there would have to be a further cut in the basic ration.
