‘EXTRAORDINARY CASE’
WED WOMAN HE ROBBED LONDON, Sept. 27. “What an extraordinary case,” remarked a magistrate after he had sentenced a 27-year-old man to six months' gaol. While on remand on bail, the man, Clifford Parfitt, an ex-Borstal boy, with seven previous convictions, married a middle-aged woman from whom he had stolen six mink ties and a diamond brooch valued at £350.
A detective in evidence said: “Parfitt had been friendly with Mrs. Ciro Sacks for six weeks. Visiting her at home at Kensington one day, he stole the ties and brooch.” . Pleading for leniency for Parfitt, his wife said, “I forgive him everything. I will take him back if you temper justice with mercy.” The magistrate gave Parfitt _ the maximum sentence, saying Parfitt’s record showed he was a man who was not prepared to work.
