NO CEMENT SHORTAGE?
USE IN TARANAKI
RESTRICTIONS RELAXED
(P.A.) NEW PLYMOUTH, Nov. 8. A concession in the issue of cement permits for certain local body work and home footpaths was announced by Mr. R. Masters, Stratford, a member of the Taranaki Cement Distribution Committee.
He said the committee approached the building controller to have the restrictions lifted for a time so that local bodies who had a substantial amount of kerbing, channelling and footpath work to overtake, and persons who required paths for private homes could carry out such work during a period when farmers were not in such urgent need of cement. They also asked that cement be made available for school swimming baths. The controller advised the committee that certain restrictions would be lifted temporarily and cement could be used for those purposes provided a permit was obtained. No permit could be issued for work in which steel was involved. Consequently cement could not be made available for school baths.
