CLOSE SCORING

MINIATURE RIFLE CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES Scoring was high and competition exceptionally keen in the annual outdoor championships of the Gisborne Miniature Rifle Club. Two practices were fired at 50yds. and one at 100yds. in three divisions consisting of A grade, B grade and women competitors. W. J. Burton and F. J. Jeune tied in the top section, each scoring 144 out of the possible 150. Burton won the shoot-off with an excellent 49 out of the possible 50. T. Gedye took the B grade championship with an aggregate of 139 points, three ahead of B. Elliott and T. D. Lamberton in equal second position. The women’s championships provided an outstanding feature, three competitors. Mesdames Sutcliffe and Burson and Miss Sutcliffe, each registering 142. A further practice eliminated Miss Sutcliffe, but the other two remained level. The second ehot-ofT was also very keen, the honours going to Mrs. Sutcliffe by only one point.
