RIFLE SHOOTING
DEFENCE CLUB YEAR ANNUAL MEETING HELD OFFICERS RE-ELECTED A majority of the officers of the Gisborne Defence Club, including the president, were re-elected to office at the annual general meeting, members expressing satisfaction with the manner in which the club affairs had been conducted during the past year. The attendance was good, and the auguries for the new season were considered to be most encouraging. The annual report recorded good attendances on the range for the past season's _ competitions and the maintenance of a high standard of marksmanship, noticeable improvement being made by some of the newel members. , , Prizes Well Distributed Practically all members participated in the distribution of prize money through the year and the major challenge trophies, Barry Cup, Townley Cup. Field Cup and Rait Beit were won by F. J. Jeune. In the B Grade G. Jeune captured the Ford Clip mid’also won a valued trophy donated by Mr. and Mrs. G. Wootton for the most improved junior competitor. The Whitcombc and Calflwell Cup, recently donated to the clnb and allocated to the runner-up in the B Grade, was won by I. Foss, who also performed well throughout the past season.
The Gisborne club team retained the Tokomaru Bulls-Eye Plate, Pop Jeune Mug, and Chambers Shield in competition with Wairoa, Nuha ka and Ruatorin clubs,’the report continned. The annual competition for the Holden Cup for club teams was won by the team consisting of R. Bull. L. Dennis. P. Foss and J. K. Aitken. each member receiving a miniature trophy.
tn the New Zealand championship held at Trentham three of the club’s members secured places in the final. W. J. Burton won the challenge cup for the highest score in the final match, and finished in fifth place iti the championship. R. Bull and F .J. Jeune were also well placed in the aggregate. Foss, R. Dolman. H. lies. J. K. Aitken. S. Parkes, G. Wootton. G. Jeune, I. Foss, G. Judge, F. Lioyd and B. Elliott; handicappere, Messrs. R. O. Bull C. Lloyd, G. Jeune nnd F. J, Jeune; hon. auditor, Mr. B. 11. Dodge.
A programme for the coming season submitted by the secretary, was approved. The first range practice match will be held on October 19 at 9 a.m., on the Sponge Bay range.
