NARROWLY MISSED

NEW SHOW RECORD RAIN ON SECOND DAY 67TH FIXTURE CONCLUDED The P. B. Agricultural and Pastoral Association’s sixty-seventh annual Show, concluded on Saturday. narrowly missed creating a record for attendance, the gate receipts being slightly down on last year’s outstanding total. , The threat of rain which hung over the fixture throughout Saturday, and which' materialised for a few minutes only well on in the afternoon, undoubtedly had the effect of keeping some oeoDle at home: and the preoccuDation of many farmers with seasonal work also had its effect upon the attendance. Nevertheless, the function was highly satisfactory in all its aspects, and visiting judges and Datrons credited the association with a Show equal to any to be found in the provinces of New Zealand. In a number of cases judges declared that only at a Royal Show would the exhibits in their particular classes attain a higher level of quality. Good Organisation Apparent The president, Mr A. C. Langford, the secretary, Mr A. R. Trafford, and other officers of the association received many compliments upon the organisa- * tion of the fixture, which, apart from a late start with some of the judging on the first dav. went without a hitch. From the point of view of many connected with the Show, it was probably the easiest in the long series conducted bv the association, the preliminary organisation having been carried out with close attention to detail, and no last-minute rushes having to be attended to.

Only one accident occurred during the two days, a boy suffering a broken lea in a mishap which had no connection with the Show itself. All the competitions classes were conducted without a serious fall, although a number of riders took minor tosses, and no difficulties arose in the handling of livestock either on the ground or in approaching or leaving the ground. Going-Home Crush Eliminated

Public transport arrangements worked out well, and the provision of special loading facilities for buses at the main outlet from the ground once again proved hishlv valuable. The rush and scramble for seats in buses which in recent vears had developed into a real hazard was eliminated, and the loading and dispatch of vehicles was speeded up noticeably by the improvement in organisation at this point. Late results were as under: — f AWARDS
