WAR OFFICE STRIKE

PHOTOGRAPHIC WORKERS FINANCES AND STATUS LONDON, Oct. 16. One hundred civil servants—men, women and machine operators in the War Office photostat branch—began an unofficial strike today in a protest against the delay in negotiations between the Civil Service Union and the Treasury on their financial position and status. Their leader, Mr. T. A. Haddon, who is the union’s branch secretary, said: “We are asking the War Office Permanent Under-Secretary for an assurance that negotiations will be resumed and we will not return until we get the assurance.”

A couple of hours later, however, the strikers voted for a return to work tomorrow. They decided to resume the strike in all civil service photographic departments if negotiations were not resumed within a week.
