POSTING OF TROOPS
KATHIAWAR AREA PROBLEMS OF DEFENCE CONFERENCE PROPOSED NEW DELHI, Oct. 16. An Indian Defence Ministry communique says that Indian troops will land a* Jafarabad .on the south coast of Katniawar Peninsula, tomorrow in accordance with a decision taken earlier in October to station military forces there after the accession of Junagadh State to Pakistan. Engineer, signals and medical units will accompany the troops. Royal Indian Navy ships will later pay courtesy calls at nearby Kathiawar ports. The Government has also, decided to post a brigade group at Rajkot, in the heart of Kathiawar. It will consist of Indian Army detachments and troops from Baroda. Rhaunagar, Navangar and Porbandar States.
Detachments already in the peninsula include Royal Indian Air Force Tempest aircraft and a small force of troops landed on October 5 at Porbandar, on the west coast.
The Newspaper Statesman reported that a large mob attacked a train carrying Moslems at Bharatpur, in the West United Provinces. The report added that the guards inflicted casual ties on the attackers.
Sir Nirza Ismail, one of India’s foremost administrators, proposed that Indian and Pakistan leaders should meet representatives of the United States. Australia and the United Nations and Mr. Gandhi to consider the dangers in India to the future peace of the world and advise India on her problems.. Sir Nirza who was formerly Prime Minister of Hyderabad, in an article m the Statesman said that such a conferencc might include the two Gover-nors-General, the two Prime Ministers and three representatives from a£r°ad Perhaps Mr. Hoover, Mr. William Phillips or Mr. Sumner Welles, of the United States. Mr. Evatt or Mr. Casey from Australia.. M. Trygve Lie. from the United Nations, and Mr. Gandhi might well be regarded as representing humanity.
