NEW RED OFFENSIVE
DRIVE IN MANCHURIA BATTLE FOR LIENSHAN (10.30 a.m.) PEKING. Sept. 26. Fifty thousand Communists attacked Lienshan, a vital point on the railway to Mukden, 85 miles north-east of the Great Wall, says the independent newspaper Hsin Min Pao. It appears that the sixth Red offensive in Manchuria has already begun. Fighting is raging in the suburbs of Lienshan. Martial law has been declared in the Nationalists’ chief Manchurian supply port. Hulutao, six miles east of Lienshan. The Communist radio confirms the attack on Lienshan and claims that the 79th and 105th Government divisions were wiped out on September 22.
