JERUSALEM. Sept. 12. Tt is officially announced that Sami Effendi Tali a, secretary of the _ Arab Federation of Labour. was. assassinated at his home in Haifa tonight. More Mosquitoes Arrive Two more Mosquito aircraft for the R.N.Z.A.F. arrived at Ohakea on Friday from Australia. The first, which was piloted by Squadron-Leader Baigent, took 5 hours 13 minutes to cross the Tasman and landed at 2.31 p.m Flight-Lieutenant Morgan was _ the navigator. The second aircraft arrived at 2.4 ti p.m. after a journey lasting 5 hours 29 minutes. It was flown by Flight-Lieutenant Hamlin, with FlyingOffice]- McClymont as navigator. Balloon's Long Flight
A meteorological balloon which, judged on its appearance, is believed to have been released from Whenuapai some time ago, was returned. by post to the air station on Wednesday. Discovered at fairua, on the. Coromandel Peninsula, over GO miles west . of Whenuapai, the balloon is thought to have reached a height of over 30,000tt. With their course followed by radar, these vividly-coloured balloons arc released daily at the station to enable recordings of wind velocity and direction to be taken.
