Discovered at fairua, on the. Coromandel Peninsula, over GO miles west . of Whenuapai, the balloon is thought to have reached a height of over 30,000tt. With their course followed by radar, these vividly-coloured balloons arc released daily at the station to enable recordings of wind velocity and direction to be taken.
