UNIQUE HONOUR
FAIRLIE CLERYMAN CORNISH BARD SOCIETY (P.A.) TIMARU, Sept- 13. A unique distinction has been conferred upon the Rev. Kenneth Schollar, of St. Stephen’s parish, Fairlie. He has received advice that he has been granted admission to the “Forscth Kernow,” the society of Cornish bards, membership of which is open only to those who are competent in the Cornish tongue. Mr. Schollar thus becomes the first bard in New Zealand, there being only three other members outside Britain. The society keeps alive and up to date the ancient Celtic language which, ns a vernacular, has been replaced by English for more than two centuries. Mr. Schollar has been given the bardic name of “Lee and Dyghon Pc]'.,, which means ‘‘Voice of the Ear South, and was invested ns such in absentia at the annual Gorscdd held at Launceston on August 30.
