SCIENTISTS’ APPEAL

REDUCTION OF SENTENCE BRITISH ATOM EXPERT LONDON, Sept. 4. The Association of Scientific Workers has renewed its plea for a reduction of the sentence of 10 years’ imprisonment passed on May 1, 1946 on Doctor Allan Nunn May for the communication on atomic research contrary to the Official Secrets Act. The association, in a letter to the Home Secretary, Mr Chuter Ede, states although Mr Chuter Ede feels he is unable to reduce the sentence the association still feels it is “harsh and excessive and quite out of proportion to the seriousness of the offence. We completely repudiate flic suggestion that Dr. Nunn May’s action was motivated by gain.”
