WOMAN ELECTED T.U.C. CHAIRMAN
(11 a.m.) LONDON, Sept. 5. The T.U.C. general council elected Miss Florence Hancock, the chief woman officer of the Transport and General Workers Union, as chairman. She will preside over the next T.U.C. Miss Hancock, who is 54 was one of the joint authors ot the 1945 report on domestic service « for the Ministry of Labour. She was a member of the national advisory council for juvenile employment and of the standing joint committee of women’s organisations. , ~ , , 0 She began work at tne age of L as a washer-up in a cafe. She joined the Transport and General Workers’ Union at the age of 18.
