RATING ELECTROCUTED

FATALITY ON BELLONA (P.A.) AUCKLAND, Sept. 5. A naval rating in the cruiser Bellona lost his life during the ship's cruise in the Pacific when he was electrocuted while rigging a cluster of deck lights. The victim was: Douglas James Laurence Macdonald, aged 22, married, Atickland. The accident occurred when the ship was lying in the lagoon at Nukualofa. The victim, who was serving as electrician's mate, first-class, received a shock through the head and 'body and was killed instantly. With full naval ceremony and with over 150 members of the ship’s company as mourners, the funeral took place in Nukualofa the following day. The sympathy of the Royal House of Tonga was expressed in beautiful wreaths from Queen Salote and Crown Prince Tungi and the burial service was attended by many Tongans. They included the Prime Minister, Hon. Ata, and the Minister of Police, Hon. Akaola. The British Consul and Agent, Mr. C. W. T. Johnson, was also present. The accident is being investigated by a board of inquiry sol up by the

captain of the Bellona, Captain M. B. Baing.
