BEACH CARNIVAL
POSSIBLE THIS YEAR WAIKANAE FUNCTION The hope that a carnival could be held at the Waikanae Beach during the week following New Year was expressed at the annual meeting last night of the Gisborne Thirty-thousand club. The chairman of the entertainments committee, Mr H. C. Gregory said that the carnival was still in the embyro stage, During the holidays a carnival Mfllllf tlllllfllßllltl tUHlllllllttllllllllllHll I 111 llllll(■ 111111111*1*
was definitely needed as an entertainment to visitors to the Waikanae Beach particularly. Other organisations in town would be asked to co-operate with the club and they would share in any profits. It was not intended to charge an entrance iee, said Mr. Gregory, but the thing was to get tire people to the beach and nave something for them to do. If visitors particularly, had something to do they would keep coming back to Gisborne and bringing their friends with them.
The proposition was supported by various members ot the club, and it was decided that a recommendation should be made to the incoming committee to investigate the possibilities of holding a New Year carnival. At a committee meeting following the annual meeting the recommendation was favourably received and it was decided to ask other Gisborne organisations for their support.
