OTAGO HUNT HAS LARGER FIELDS

Three flat galloping races, two steeplechases, one hurdles and two trots provide the bill of fare at the Otago Hunt meeting to be held at Wingatui tomorrow. The- fields are decidedly larger than last season’s. The majority of horses claiming engagement have not raced in recent months, so that picking out the right ones may prove more difficult than usual.

The Son view Hack and Hunters’ Hurdles is the opening event. .Night Fighter, on his showing at the National fixture, looks the logical favourite, with strongest opposition coining from Koscuisko and Money Bird, while novices in Whakawhalea and Wee Mac arc well com.nenterd upon down South.

.Fifteen have made acceptance in the Otago Hunt Cup Steeplechase, a £725 race run over two miles —the richest hunt prize in the South Island. Opinion may oe fairly well divided between the IRISH WIT—BALLYAGGAN bracket, COURT DRESS, CLOISTER, DEBATER and EDWARD, with the last-named in all probability the public’s first selection. A big hack field claim.* engagements in the President’s Handicap. Relampago, Lady Melrose, Slick, Duvaals, Punjab and Bren Cun may furnish the best backed. However, there is little recent form to help in a summing-up. JOYOIVER tops the weights in the only open race on he programme. VERDANT, LORD DUNDONALI), AIK ACE, YOUNG 808 and BKOCKIE are the best race-condi-tioned of this lot.

Connaught looks like being a favourite in the Vnuxhall Handicap, but will find still opposition from Desert Victory, Sandy’s Pride, Baffling, Wee Mac and Bobby Dazzler.
