GREAT BATTING FEAT

COMPTON’S 16TH CENTURY LONDON, Sept. 2. Dennis Compton, of Middlesex, who made 139 against Lancashire, has now equalled J. B. Hobbs’ record of 10 centuries for the season. He played a masterly innings and showed no sign of nerves even when in the nineties. Hobbs made his record in 1025. Lon Hutton’s 270 not out for Yorkshire was the season's highest individual score and heat W. J. Edrich's 267 not out against Northants in July. Hutton’s stand with Yard ley produced 278 in 160 minutes.
