MID-WEEK RACING BAN

EXTENSION TO YEAR-END N.S.W. CABINET DECISION SYDNEY, Sept. 3. The State Cabinet has decided to contihue the ban on mid-week racing until January 1, 1949, and to forbid the holding of night trotting with betting. The question of allowing night trots will be reconsidered early in 1949. It is understood that the Cabinet decision was largely influenced by the Premier, Mr. J. McGirr, who strongly urged a continuance of the ban as long as possible because of the need to concentrate on the production of building materials.

For some time racing interests, including dog racing and night trotting, have been actively pushing their claims among State politicians, including Ministers.

The original ban imposed under the national security regulations will expire on September 30.
