SENTENCES COMMUTED

SLOVENE INTELLECTUALS (10 15 a.m.) BELGRADE, Aug. 24. The Presidium of the National Assembly commuted the death sentences passed last week on Dr. Boris Furlan and Ljabo Sire to 20 years’ imprisonment and the loss of civil and political rights for life. The Presidium confirmed the death sentence on Catomir Nagods. . . , They were three of 15 Slovene intellectuals whom the Supreme Court found guilty of spying. _ The Times' correspondent in Belgrade says the sentences caused vigorous protests in Britain. Many English people know and respected Dr. Furlan when as a refugee in London during the war he broadcast ills support for the partisan cause.
