LIQUOR TRUST CONTROL DEBATE

PARLIAMENT IN SESSION

REFERENDUM PRINCIPLE APPROVED INVERCARGILL “MISTAKE” REMEDIED (P.R.) WELLINGTON, August 13. As Masterton, in the Wairarapa licensing district, approves trust control when licenses are restored and country districts prefer private licenses, two measures arc necessary to give effect to the restoration decision. Both were read a second time in the House of Representatives yesterday. The most interesting feature of the discussion was the satisfaction of Opposition members that the Government had remedied a mistake in Invercargill, where the trust system was imposed without a referendum of'the electors. Both bills are to be considered by a special select committee. The second reading discussion on the Police Force Bill, in charge of the Prime Minister, Mr. P. Fraser, occupied the remainder of the day and was not completed when the House rose at 10.30 p.m. The. slender Order Paper was slightly extended by the introduction of two Government bills—the Royal Titles Bill and the Births and Deaths Registration Amendment Bill.
