AUCKLAND CRITICISM
DOCTORS AND THEIR WORK (P.A.) AUCKLAND. Aug. 12. Some doctors were not doing the work for which they were paid and in many cases were more anxious to have the patient sign the social security payment book than give the patient a proper examination. These allegations were made at a meeting of the Auckland Hospital Board when a discussion arose whether senior casualty officers should be appointed at the Auckland and Green Lane Hospitals. One view expressed was that the doctors were paid to treat many patients who went to the casualty department, so why should the board stand the expense? A board member claimed that the doctors were not doing their work, and the taxpayer was getting little service foi his money. The chairman, Mr. Allan J. Moody, said that there would be no trouble so far as the board was concerned if the doctors would do their jobs.
The question of the appointment of casualty officers was deferred for further consideration.
