ENGAGEMENT FRAUD
PROBATION FOR WOMAN MAN HANDS OVER £3OO (P.A.) AUCKLAND. Aug. 12. ' “You deceived this man and got this money by false pretences, I can see no difference between a person who does that and an ordinary theft,” said Mr. Justice Calkin, when Dorothy Carter, aged 43, matrimonial agent, appeared for sentence after having been found guilty of obtaining £3OO and a ring valued at £65 from Josef Fridditon Gabriel, by false pretences It was alleged that she falsely represented she was not married and was preoared to marry him. Site was admitted to probation for three years, a special condition being that she is not to be connected in any way with a matrimonial business. It was stated that restitution had been made.
