S. AUSTRALIA'S PLIGHT ADELAIDE, Aug. 12. The coal shortage has placed the building industry in South Australia 20,000 tons of cement in arrears which is not likelv to be made up before 1948. According to the director of building materials, Mr. J W Waimvright supplies of steel beams and metal fittings for whicn the State is dependent on New South Wales, are decreasing daily and the introduction of the 40-hour week is making the position worse. Many Adelaide factories producing building materials have been forced to close clown owing to the shortage of coni and the gas and power restrictions imposed last Thursday are continuing.
