PAKISTAN GOVERNOR
MR. JINNAH’S TITLE PARTITION COUNCILS' JOB (11 a.m.) KARACHI, Aug. 12. The Pakistan Constituent Assembly decided that Mr Jinnah the Governor-General-designate o( Pakistan, be addressed as "Quaid-e-Azam”, which, literally interpreted, means “great leader”. Mr. Liaquat Ali Khan said it would not be disrespectful if Mr. Jinnah were addressed as Excellency. The Assembly adjourned until August 14 when the Viceroy, Lord Louis Mountbatlen formally hands over power to Pakistan and Mr. Jinnah will be sworn in.
Lord Mountbatlen has established four councils to continue the work of the partitioning of India after Pakistan and the Union of India come into being on Friday says the Associated Press correspondent in New Delhi. Should any council fail to agree it may refer to the already existing arbitration tribunal. RIOTING IN CALCUTTA CALCUTTA, Aug. 11. Seven persons were killed and 25 injured in communal rioting in Calcutta yesterday. The police opened fire twice.
