Borough Water Consumption Consumption of water in the Gisborne Borough for the week ended July 28 was 7.350,000 gallons, and for the following week 7,11’0,000 gallons. A complaint that golfers had been driving cars through the transit camp at the Park Domain at an unreasonable speed was dealt with by the Gisborne Borough Council last evening in its capacity as the Makaraka Domain Board. The town clerk Mr W. M. Jenkins stated that the golfers had another entry and were specificially debarred from using the transit camp street. He undertook to bring the matter to the attention of members of the golf club. Park Domain Lease

Of three applications received last evening by the Gisborne Borough Council —in its capacity as the domain board —for the lease "of the Park Domain, the council elected to accept that of the Gisborne Park Golf Club, which indicated that it would grant a sublease to a returned serviceman suffering from partial disability, and requiring an outdoor occupaton. The club also undertook to make the racecourse available for training operations at all reasonable times.

“Miss New Zealand" Quest A request that encouragement be given to local organisations to sponsor candidates in the “Miss New Zealand’’ quest conducted by the Royal Society of St. George was received sympathetically by the Gisborne Borough Council at its fortnightly meeting last evening. The Mayor. Mr N. H. Bull suggested that in view of the excellent object of the campaign—to send food to Britain—the council should sponsor a public meeting to gauge the support likely to be given to the quest. This proposal was warmly supported and Tuesday, August 19, was fixed for the suggested public meeting.

Matawai Farmer Injured While driving a string of horses from Matawai to Gisborne on Monday for the horse fair at Matawhero yesterday, Mr Frank Kirnber was thrown by his horse and suffered slight concussion and abrasions. He was admitted to the Cook Hospital, where he will be a patient for a few days. ‘ It was at about 2 p.m. on Monday that the accident occurred on the Waipaoa'section of the main highway between Te Karaka and Ormond. His mount shied on the bitumen and fell Mr Kirnber received his injuries when his horse’ rolled over him in its efforts to regain its feet. Mr Kirnber. who recently took up land in the Matawai district, was making a clearance of the horses on the property. Photographic Contest

The annual Bledisloe Cup photographic competition, judged in Nelson, was won by the Wellington Camera Club by an easy margin from the Christchurch Photographic Society. The champion print, “The Chorister," a study of a choir boy, was exhibited by Mr. Spencer Digby, Wellington. The points scored in the club competition, are as follows: Wellington 1132 points, Christchurch 1031, Nelson 1027, Dunedin 1000, Waikato 999. South Canterbury 973, Auckland 922, Southland 90S. Wellington exhibitors filled the first feur places in the individual championship. Mr. Spencer Digby gained 96 points, Mr. G. Perry was second with 94, and Mr. J. C- Ward and Mr. Farmer McDonald third equal with 91.—P.A. .
