Antcaters Die at Sea
Two spiny antcaters destined for the Auckland Zoo died on the Union Company’s motor-ship Kurow when the vessel was two days out from Melbourne. The remainder of the shipment, three emus and a wombat, arrived in Auckland on Wednesday none the worse for the voyage. The antcaters, which would have been the first to be brought to New Zealand, were part of an exchange of exhibits between the Melbourne Zoological Gardens and the -Auckland Zoo. National Savings Tile Dominion-wide support accorded to national savings during recent months was again reflected lust week in (he attainment of .'124 local quotas, representing f)2 per cent, of those allotted. Two outstanding local achievements were those of Ohura and Waitomo Caves, in the Hamilton district, each of which has more than trebled its local annual quota for the current financial year. The national savings group movement continues to expand most promisingly, as evidenced by the formation, of 148 new savings groups since April 1 last, against 57 secured for the corresponding period in 184(1. With 4500 new group depositors enrolled during the past four months, there are now 105,000 group savers in the Dominion.
