EXPERIENCE ELSEWHERE (PA.) WELLINGTON, Aug. 13 In the Legislative Council yesterday afternoon Mr J. T. Paul (Wellington) gave notice to ask the Leader of the Council it in view of the consideration now being given to the constituton of the Legislature of New Zealand immediate steps could be taken to have made available all factual records pertaining to alterations in the constitution of second chambers in the countries of the British Commonwealth of Nations.
Mr Paul said Imperial Paper Miscellaneous No. 5, 1907, outlined the composition and functions _of second or upper chambers in foreign States and the New Zealand Parliamentary Paper contained particulars respecting the Commonwealth of Australia.
Frequent reference had been made to the abolition of the Legislative Council in Queensland, but no public reference had been made to the important fact that a referendum of the electors was held prior to such abolition, the polling being:- For _ abolition 110,19(1 votes, against abolition 179,105 votes, majority against abolition 03,000.
