FLEET EXTENSION
STATE SKIPPING LINE MORE VESSELS ORDERED SYDNEY, Aug. 11. .A voluntary control committee will operate all Australian shipping when the Government control ends next Monday. This announcement was made last night by the Minister of Supply and Shipping Senator W. P. Ashley. Next Week ships will be handed bad; to their private owners, but the new control machinery will carry on in virtually (he same way as _ under the national security regulations, except that it will have no legislative basis. Government and private shipowners will have equal representation on the control committee. The director of shipping. Mr. R. A. I-letherington, said that the Government would build up its own tleet which at present consisted of 13 9000-ton freighters, one of 0000 tons and eight of 3500 tons- , , , Nine more ships had been ordered or were under construction. The Commonwealth, he said, also owned the war prize Reynella, of 12000 tons, the former German ship r.rnpire Conifer of 1500 tons allotted as part of Ihe war reparations and the Corrimal of 1800 tons.
