DEFENCE BY MATAKAOA TOKOMARU BID FAILS (Herald Correspondent.) Visiting Te Araroa on Saturday, the Tokomaru Bay Rugby Sub-union representatives played ail unsucccssiul challenge match against Matakaoa lot the Pcperc Gold Cup though the hold ers of the trophy were fully extended. The match was a very even and hard-lought contest in which the challengers held the lead until the final minutes when Matakaoa rallied stiongly to win by l.a points to Id. T.ie *cleree was Mr. M Thatcher. In a curtain-raiser the Te Araroa District High School defeated Manu tahi (Ruatoria) District High by 11 points to nil Recently Te Araroa defeated Manulahi on the Ruatoria ground. , „ , . , Next Saturday the Ruatoria subunion representatives are to contest the Pcpere Gold Cup at fe Aiaioa.
